Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom

Synopsis

행복지수 1위 은둔의 나라 부탄의 수도 팀푸에서 신임교사로 일하는 유겐은 교사가 영 적성에 맞지 않는다.
교육부는 호주로의 이민을 꿈꾸는 그를 인구 56명에 불과한 전 세계에서 가장 외딴 벽지학교로 전근시킨다.
전기도 들어오지 않고 모든 것이 불편하기만 한 고도 4,800m의 낯선 오지 마을에서 유겐은 겨울이 오기 전까지 학생들을 가르쳐야 한다.
매사가 불평불만인 그이지만 때 묻지 않은 아름다운 자연의 경관과 순수한 마을 주민들의 환대, 그리고 배움에 대한 아이들의 열정을 마주하며
서서히 달라지기 시작한다.

Ugyen is a young teacher in Bhutan who wants to relocate to Australia. However, his boss sends him to Lunana,
the most remote school in the world, saying he hasn’t completed his contracted service.
The journey to get there is so tough that it seems he has no comfort whatsoever on the way.
When he finally manages to arrive in the village, people welcome him heartily, but this westernized young man
feels only unsatisfied as all he finds is just one classroom with nothing prepared.
The film concentrates on portraying how Ugyen lives in Lunana as seasons change, rather than on what an urbanite feels
in a remote area. Then it leads the viewer to watch where Ugyen eventually heads.

Synopsis

"푸줏간(도축장)에서 도망친 물소가 온 마을을 헤집고 다닌다. 마을 남자들은 폭주하는 물소를 잡기 위해 나서고
이웃 마을 남자들까지 몰려들자 한바탕 대소동이 벌어진다.
평화롭던 마을은 물소를 제압하려는 남자들로 인해서 순식간에 아수라장이 되버리고, 인간과 짐승의 구분이 사라져 버린 물소 사냥은
점차 무분별하고 폭력적인 광기로 변해간다

"A water buffalo that has escaped from a butcher's shop wanders through the village. The men of the village set out to catch the runaway
buffalo and when the men of the neighboring villages rush in, a commotion ensues.
The peaceful village quickly turns into mayhem due to men trying to subdue the buffalo and buffalo hunting,
where the distinction between man and beast has disappeared, gradually turns into indiscriminate and violent madness.

Happy as Lazzaro

Synopsis

시간이 멈춘 것 같은 아름다운 시골 마을 인비올라타. 라짜로는 이웃들과 함께 마을의 지주인 후작 부인의
담배 농장에서 일하는 순박한 청년이다. 요양을 위해 마을을 찾아온 후작 부인의 아들 탄크레디와 라짜로는 둘만의 우정을 쌓는다.
자유를 갈망하는 탄크레디는 자신의 납치극을 꾸며 마을을 벗어나려고 결심하고, 라짜로는 그런 그를 돕는다.
한편, 납치 신고로 마을을 찾아온 경찰에 의해 이웃들은 뿔뿔이 흩어지게 되고 라짜로는 홀로 남게 되는데...

"The village of Inviolata (Italian for 'unsullied')" lives up to its name in successful Italian director Alice Rohrwacher’s third film.
The small community of tobacco farmers lives as it has for centuries. However, the marquis’ car
- who rules the plantation with an iron fist - and her son Tancredi’s mobile phone reveal that we are closer to the present than we might think.

In turn, the exploited villagers abuse the endless patience of young Lazzaro, who is innocence personified.
From the moment he and Tancredi become friends, everything goes wrong. Following a dramatic incident,
the villagers are dragged into the modern age. Lazzaro felice (a screenplay winner in Cannes) tells a wondrous tale in which fable
and social realism unite, as if by magic.
