Three Days to Freedom

Synopsis

토플리도 마을은 세르비아 남부 피로트에서 약 30km 떨어진 자연 공원 "스타라 플라니나" 에 있다.
마을 주민들은 소위 투자자의 미니 수력 발전소 건설을 막을 수 있기를 바라며
며칠 동안 야간 경비를 번갈아 서고 있다.
60세 이상 지역민들이 경비를 서며. 매일 밤 불 옆으로 모인다.

Topli Do village is located in the Nature park “Stara planina”, around 30 km from Pirot (South of Serbia).
Villagers have been taking turn in their night watch duties for days now in the hope
they can stop the so-called investor from building a mini hydro powerplant.
Locals over 60 are guards. They are gathering next to the fire every night.

Pathway of Scars 

Synopsis

2020년 발생한 역사상 가장 파괴적인 산불로 인해 마투 그로소 주 판타날의
광활한 평원에 깃들어사는 사람들과 동식물에 각인된 영향, 흔적과 흉터에 관한 에세이.

This is a film-essay on the impact, the traces,
and the scars imprinted on the flora, fauna,
and life of people who inhabit the vast plains of the Pantanal in the Mato Grosso state,
caused by the most devastating wildfires in its history, which took place in 2020.

아마존 보호자: 싱구 원주민 

XINGU NARRATORS 

Synopsis

녹음 제작진은 싱구 원주민 경기에 관한 다큐를 만들기 위해 브라질 중서부 싱구 원주민 구역으로 갔다.
몇일 촬영한 뒤, 경기를 뛰어 넘는 원주민 서사를 내레이션에 넣기로 결정한다.
환경과 정치 문제, 제작팀이 16개 그룹 원주민족과 교류하는 동안의 경험을 들려준다.

A recording crew goes to the Xingu Indigenous Park in center west of Brazil to make a documentary about indigenous games.
After several days of filming, they decide to narrate an epic that goes beyond the games,
and talk about environmental and political issues and the experiences they had during the exchange
with indigenous people of 16 different ethnic groups.

도프루지리

Doprujhiri

Synopsis

방글라데시 산비탈에 사는 작은 공동체 이야기. 마을 옆 식수를 제공하는 강줄기 이름을 따 도프루 지리라 불린다.
마을사람들은 주변 환경과 본질적인 관계를 공유하는데 인종적으로는 므로라는 소수민족으로 알려져 있다.
공동체는 완전히 자급자족했었다. 이들 생존의 지속 가능성은 자연과의 균형 유지에 크게 의존하는데 매우 잘해왔다.
선을 넘지 않는 것을 아는 것이 중요하다.
그러나 자연이 급격히 착취당하면서 자연과 이 공동체 사이의 유대감마저 점차 사라지고 있다.

Doprujhiri The tale of a small community living in the hillside area of Bangladesh.
This village is named after a stream of water that flows next to the village and provides fresh water.
People of this village share an intrinsic relationship with the surrounding.
Ethnically, people living in this village are known as the Mro people - a minor indigenous community.
This community used to be completely totally self-sufficient.
The sustainability of their survival relies heavily on maintaining a balance with nature and they were very good at it.
Knowing which line is not to be trespassed is crucial.
But gradually the bonding between the nature and this community is fading away as the nature is being exploited hurriedly.
The stones that maintain the flow of water of the stream are getting stolen.
The trees are being cut down on large scale.
Now, the villagers are forced to rely more and more on the outside world and the harmony
that has been there for a long time is disappearing.
Climate change has many faces and its impact is multi folded.
When it comes down to climate change many avenues can be taken.
Doprujhiri explores the abrupt human intervention and how it may disrupt age old way of living.
Focusing on the struggle of a small community Doprujhiri depicts the immediate aftermath of the alarming
practice of ruining the biodiversity and nature-human bonding.

WANTOKS: Dance of Resilience in Melanesia

Synopsis

2018년 남태평양 솔로몬제도에서 독립 40주년을 기념하는 멜라네시아 예술 및 문화 축제가 열렸다.
이웃 섬 국가들에서도 서파푸아는 인도네시아의 점령에 저항하고 뉴칼레도니아 주민들이
여전히 프랑스 통치하에 살면서 자유를 위한 투쟁을 이어가고 있다.
멜라네시아 모든 국가의 주민들은 해수면 상승이
토지와 전통 모두를 삼킬 위험에까지 처하며 기후변화라는 공통의 도전에 직면해 있기도 하다. 

In 2018 the Solomon Islands, in the South Pacific, hosted the Melanesian Arts & Cultural Festival,
celebrating the country’s 40th anniversary of independence.
On neighboring island states, the struggle for freedom continues,
as West Papua resists Indonesian occupation and the residents of New Caledonia still live under French rule.
In all Melanesian countries, residents face the common challenge of climate change,
as rising sea levels threaten to swallow both land and tradition.
In this charged context, captivating performers are using their talents to celebrate local culture and draw international attention to their islands’ plight,
with the hope of spurring international solidarity and prompting collective action against the perils of a warming world.
